Ngee Cheong Contractors Pte Ltd was incorporated by our Chirman, Mr Goh Wah Fong.

1975 |
Our present Managing Director, Mr Sung Yung Huan, joined the company as our managing partner. With his many years of refinery construction experience, Mr Sung secured the company’s first major project Pulau Bukon’s Shell refinery to carry out electrical installation for the Thermal Gas Unit (TGU). This project in Bukom started the company’s long-term association with the Petro-chemical industry which has been carried on till today. |

1976 |
With the completion of the TGU, our company was invited to stay in Bukom refinery as its resident contractor. Mr Sung entrusted this business to his faithful assistants, and devoted his time and effort to start the company’s operations on mainland Singapore in the electrical installation of building and factory projects. |

Late 1970 |
In the subsequent years, we were involved in the electrical projects for the Arcade at Shenton area, Yeo Hiap Seng factories at Bukit Timah and Dunearn Road, Thomson View and Dairy Farm condominiums, Goldcoin Feedmill plant, Sin Heng Chan Feedmill plants.
In the same period, Ngee Cheong also actively participated in the Petro-chemical plant construction. Projects done included Bukom’s new Crude Distiller 5 electrical work, Pulau Ayer Chawan Esso power expansion project, Esso’s lubrication oil expansion project, CADHI’s Fuel Hydrant System at Changi Airport, etc.

1983 |
With encouragement from our clients with business in both Singapore and Malaysia, 1983 saw Ngee Cheong’s entry into Malaysia to carry out project works for these special clients. These projects included Sin Heng Chang’s Feedmill plant in Kuantan and Malacca, and Shell’s new refineries in Port Dickson. Due to growth in Singapore’s business, our operation in Malaysia remained on a project basis.

Mid 1980s |
We were selected by the System-Wide International Contractor to undertake the electrical installation work for the Orchard MRT in a long string of MRT stations including, Somerset, Newton, Kallang, Aljunied, Kambangan, Bedok, Pasir Ris, Khatib, Yishun, Jurong East, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Gombak, Yasin 66KV PUB Substation, Shan Road underground on-line substation.
Our participation in the electrical project work for the MRT lines and stations continued to the late 1980s when both Phase I and II of MRT were fully commissioned.

Early 1990s |
Ngee Cheong continued its healthy growth in the 1990s.
In the building project front, we completed the Henderson Industrial Park, Four Seasons Park condominium, Chinese High School, Avila Terrace Housing, Countryside Housing, Keppel Dormitory, Maplewoods Condominium, OCBC Centre East Office Building.
In the Petro-chemical projects, we participated in the Long Residue Catalytic Cracker Unit (LRCCU) Instrument and electrical work at Pulau Ular, electrical work for CD-3 revamp at Pulau Bukom, Instrument work at Pulau Seraya’s Chemical Complex, Shell Pandan’s new facilities.
In the office front, our registration with CIDB was upgraded to ME05 L5 (S$10 million). We improved our IT application dn staff literacy, purchased our own office property, and sponsored staff to various government’s continuation training programs to improve our capabilities.

Mid 1990s |
Condominium and industrial projects continued to form the backbone of our business activities. Projects involved during this period included Tuas Tech Pardk Phase 3, Kaki Bukit Industrial Park, Springdale condominium, mixed development at Balestier Road.
In addition, we were awarded Design and Build projects for North Tech building installation and Yeo Hiap Seng Machine cabling work. Both of these projects included electrical design components followed by on site electrical construction works.
We also moved into A&A projects, which later became a substantial component of our business activities. A&A projects completed in this period included Le Meridien Hotel renovation.
We continued to build our capabilities in electrical and mechanical installation. Our involvement in ACMV, fire protection, and plumbing and sanitary enabled us to qualify for CIDB registration for these activities. |

Late 1990s |
Our awarded single-contract value broke the $10 million mark with the award of the Singapore Exchange Centre at S$11.5 million.
Our in-road into the Pharmaceutical sector started with the successful award of the Wyeth-Ayerst Project 2000. With previous in-house design experience, we were also engaged to design and build the temporary electrical facilities on Wyeth-Ayerst construction site inclusive of building a 6.6 KV temporary substation.
Other building and industrial projects continued. We were also awarded the station electrical installation contract for the first Light Rail Transit project in Singapore.

Early 2000s |
Our business turnover exceeded S$20 million for the first time. We purchased our first office property, and another industrial property for investment purpose.
Our A&A contracts began to form more significant proportion of the business activities with yearly turnover steadily increasing to more than 40% of our total business volume.
We completed our first electronic production facility at Gemplus. Our completed pharmaceutical projects included Schering-Plough Biotech facility, Schering-Plough Tableting facility, Pfizer Bulk Pharmaceutical facility, GSK Amoxycillin 2400 production facility.
Provision of Electricity Supply to serve Room and Preventive Maintenance Servicing of Electrical Installation and Upgrading of MSB for Borneo Motors at 24 & 33 Leng Kee Road.
Proposed New Campus for Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts at Bencoolen Street.
Proposed Erection of 1 Block of 4-storey Nursing Home at Lengkok Bahru/Jalan Bikit Merah.
New Erection of 5-storey Motor Vehicle Service Centre & anchillary Motor Vehicle Showroom, Offices and Storage with 2 Basement Car Park at 305 Alexandra Road for Regent Motors.
Proposed Erection of 1 Block of 4-storey Nursing Home at Lengkok Bahru/Jalan Bikit Merah.
New Erection of 5-storey Motor Vehicle Service Centre & anchillary Motor Vehicle Showroom, Offices and Storage with 2 Basement Car Park at 305 Alexandra Road for Regent Motors.

Condominium and industrial projects continued to form the back bone of our business activities. Projects involved during this period included The Batonic at Lloyd, Design and build of Electrical Installation of a 16th storey Mixed Commercial Development comprising of 118 units of Office with Service Apartment at Somerset Road (UOL Building) and Mixed Development comprising of 20 storey Hotel and 2 Blocks of 20 storey Strata Apartment at Tanglin Road (St. Regis).
Our A&A contracts continued to form more significant proportion of our business activities with yearly turnover increasing to 55% of our total business volume. |

Our business turnover exceeded S$29 million in 2007.
We completed the Singapore Capacity Expansion Project for Abbott Nutrition International for the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility includes Design Temporary Supply Facilities.
In view of our successful completion to Client satisfactory pertaining to our good performance in the team work, we have awarded the Design and Provide Temporary Supply Facilities for Lonza Biologics Expansion Singapore and REC Photovoltaic Panel Manufacturing Plant at Tuas South Avenue 9 and Avenue 5.

Early 2010s |
Our business turnover exceeded S$75 million in 2010.
We completed the REC Photovoltaic Panel Manufacturing Plant at Tuas South Avenue 9 and Avenue 5 for REC Singapore and the Redevelopment to existing General Industrial Developemnt at 249 Jalan Boon Lay & 15 Chin Bee Drive for Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd for the Electrical, ACMV, Fire Protection Sanitary & Plumbing Installation.
We awarded single-contract value broke the $30 million mark with the award of the Novena Hospital at Irrawaddy Road at S$34.8 million.
Projects involved during this period included the Mixed-use Development at Lavender St / Kallang Ave, Novartis Warehouse at 10 Tuas Bay Lane for Novartis Singapore Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Pte Ltd, Condominium Housing Development at Ewe Boon Road, Conservation of Capitol Theatre, Capitol Building & Stamford House at Stamford / North Bridge Road and Warehouse, Logistics and Office Building at Pioneer Turn.
Our A&A contracts continued to form more significant proporton of our business activities with yearly turnover increasing to 60% of our total business volume.
